Paul might have talk
about women as equal to their husbands but in these particular passage if they
were meant to be written in the words of Paul they seem to be a little wrong.
Man is described as the body of Jesus and that the woman should treat her as such.
(Eph 5:23). The Lord is Master to all things and everyone, but "man is
head of woman" they compare this to Christ being the head of the church,
and man should treat woman as such for he is the only one who could make her
holy again. (Eph 5: 23-24.)
The husband is to
treat his wife with respect and give himself up to her, I feel that in the
passage it seems as if husband is master to wife as he is to his slaves.
Husband is supposed to treat wife as the church, he is to care for her as he
does his body as if she is incapable of caring for herself, or redeeming
herself. Due to the respect that man gives woman she is supposed to give him
the same respect but not in the same aspect. (Eph 5:26-33.)
Man seems to be third in command, under Jesus
and the Lord, his wife, children, and slaves are to obey him; but he is to
treat them well. (Eph 5:21-6:9.) Through Paul's writings we saw husband and
wife in an egalitarian relationship/household, women were seen to be able to
hold power, even without man. In Eph 5:21-6:9 man is the head of the household,
he makes all of the decisions as well as leads the family, the authority
belongs to man alone, slaves belong to their masters as well as the Lord and
the children are to obey their parents.
Thank goodness we are finally beginning to move away from these old, outdated patriarchal standards. You made some very good obervations, good post.
